The film is "Dead Snow" (or, in its native Norwegian "Dod Sno") and it's at Sundance this January. Which means that either it will play at one or two indie art theaters before being difficult to find on DVD, or we'll never hear of it again. Another notable Sundance-loved zombie flick from years past was "Fido" , the Carrie-Anne Moss, Billy Connolly domestic-servant-zomcom.

Bad Astronomy ) has an exciting new book out - "Death from the Skies! : These Are the Ways the World Will End . . ." - which is the very essence of the apocalypse. Plait explores ways the world really might end - black holes, gamma ray bursts, solar flares, the death of the sun... none of which are highly likely (at least any time soon), but are more likely than a bunch of seals getting opened and beasts with lots of eyes walking the earth. The book was just released, so I haven't had a chance to read it yet, but his previous book ( "Bad Astronomy: Misconceptions and Misuses Revealed, from Astrology to the Moon Landing "Hoax"" ) was a well written, considerate look at... bad astronomy.

The rumors that Danny Boyle, who directed the first film in the series, would direct the the third film ("28 Months Later" were also exciting. I've enjoyed his films - "Trainspotting" is probably the best known, but "A Life Less Ordinary" and "Sunshine" are two of my other favorites. ... Ain't It Cool News reports that "28 Months Later" will be directed by Paul Andrew Williams, director of "The Cottage" , a well-reviewed thriller featuring Andy Serkis (Gollum from the Lord of the Rings films). ... I like the idea of a telescoping timeframe, though, and would very much like to see "28 Years Later" and even better, "28 Decades Later" or "28 Centuries Later".

An antidote is due, though, and I think that a whole week of zombies may be just the answer. To start, I bring you: a zombie apocalypse in Lego, built by participants in Seattle's annual Lego conference, where they cooperatively created a portion of a city whose inhabitants were under siege by zombies... entirely in Lego, of course.
