The International Atomic Energy Commission and the International Organization for Standardization have released a new, user friendly ionizing radiation symbol. This new symbol is a small comic book showing what happens when you are exposed to the old standard trefoil radiation symbol: pirates chase you.

These days it’s all “the rapture”, global warming, bird flu, and yes - zombies. You just don’t hear about killer bees the way you used to. Apparently there’s a bee plague that’s killing off a lot of bee colonies. In fact, they’re just disappearing, so there are no bee corpses for forensic scientists to investigate.

When I think “apocalypse”, Cancun does not immediately come to mind, but apparently they are now suffering form a plague of locusts, caused in part by the lack of hurricanes this season. I guess you just can’t win in Cancun. Natural disaster or pestilence? Choose one. Good luck Quintana Roo with your war on locusts!
