About the Apocalypse
About the Apocalypse
I grew up during the 70’s, during the cold war… the energy crisis… with a constant sense of impending doom. I’m here to share that doom with you. Most of my articles will be links to news sources, articles, media, other blogs… some will be serious… some, not so serious… and some will be incisive commentary about important topics like zombies.
What is an “apocalypse”, anyway? Most often the word is used to mean the end of the world, end times, a religious reference tied to prophecy. The word “apocalypse” comes from the Greek apokalupsis and apokaluptein, meaning “revelation” or “to uncover”.
I find it very interesting that culturally we seem to equate “revelation” with the end of the world. The act of uncovering is involved in ending the world. It seems to say a lot about our culture. What kind of people are we that we equate discovery and knowledge with ending the world?
Could the zombie plague already have happened, and we’re all already zombies?
Of course, “apocalypse” doesn’t necessarily mean the end of the world. And “end of the world” can be a metaphor… “everything changes”. The idea thrills me. Everything changes. It’s scary. It’s exciting. Can the condition of the world itself change? Or is it more personal? We’re each heading for our own private apocalypse… in decades, years, months, days… maybe even minutes.
