28 Months Later

This one really got me excited. I loved "28 Days Later" and "28 Weeks Later".

“28 Days Later” revitalized the zombie genre for me as it changed the rules a bit, and scenes of devastated London were delightful.

The rumors that Danny Boyle, who directed the first film in the series, would direct the the third film (”28 Months Later” were also exciting. I’ve enjoyed his films - "Trainspotting" is probably the best known, but "A Life Less Ordinary" and "Sunshine" are two of my other favorites. His films are distinctively his without being easily characterized or stereotyped.

The rumors, it turns out, were wrong. Ain’t It Cool News reports that “28 Months Later” will be directed by Paul Andrew Williams, director of "The Cottage", a well-reviewed thriller featuring Andy Serkis (Gollum from the Lord of the Rings films).

I’m happy just to be getting another film in the series. “28 Weeks Later” only made (appropriately) $28 million in the US, versus $45 million for the first film. I like the idea of a telescoping timeframe, though, and would very much like to see “28 Years Later” and even better, “28 Decades Later” or “28 Centuries Later”. There’s still not much information on “28 Months Later” but I’m hoping it will be made and out soon.
