Jericho Speculation
I imagine that at this point you’re aware of the writer’s strike which is affecting television and eventually movie production. The first impact from the strike has been late night television and soap operas, but prime time TV will also be feeling it soon as shows run out of new episodes to air.
I’m guessing that a prolonged strike may be good news for Jericho. After the big nut protest last spring, Jericho was renewed, but only for a brief seven episode season. If the writer’s strike continues then Jericho will likely be in a very strong position when it airs, with very little competition. Let’s just hope that CBS doesn’t do something stupid, like air it opposite an unscripted, reality TV powerhouse like “American Idol”.
Jericho’s first season is still available on DVD at Amazon.
I’d like to take a moment and mention that I strongly support the writer’s strike. I know it’s inconvenient for TV viewers, especially if winter ends up being a long boring patch of reruns and crappy reality shows. The strike isn’t convenient or fun for the writers, either. But it’s important. Media is changing, and the most important thing the writers are asking for is to be paid for their work, whatever form it’s utilized in. That’s really not a lot to ask.
