Cormac McCarthy’s “The Road” has won many honors, including the Pulitzer Prize, and was boosted by being a selection for Oprah’s book club. McCarthy is notoriously publicity-shy, but Oprah was able to lure him out to do an interview as well.

Now the post-apocalyptic story is being turned into a movie. I still haven’t had a chance to read the book. I’ll be going on - yes, you’ve got it - a road trip in early October, so I’ll bring it along; maybe I’ll have the good fortune to read part of it that takes place where I am at the time (if locations are even identifiable in the book).
