Swans LOL

Three dead swans found in a pond near the German border, near Assenoncourt, France, have tested positive for bird flu.

This is France’s second outbreak of bird flu.

In order to protect domestic birds, the French will now isolate them from contact with wild birds. With luck, the outbreak may be contained.

Old news: Bird Flu Outbreak in China

Back in May, China reported an outbreak of bird flu in Hunan province, near Yiyang village. In order to control the outbreak, officials culled 53,000 birds. No humans were reported infected with bird flu, but China has reported a total of 15 deaths ever from the disease.

A Bit More Sunshine

Danny Boyle directing Sunshine

Sci Fi Wire has a bit more on Danny Boyle’s new save-the-Earth-by-sending-a-Manhattan-sized nuclear-bomb-into-the-heart-of-the-sun science fiction movie, “Sunshine”, out July 20th in the US. Boyle talks about some of his space drama influences and his homages to them (specifically to “Alien”, “2001 - A Space Odyssey” and “Dark Star”).
