Jericho - Friday Update
Since the “nuts” campaign saved Jericho for at least seven more episodes, CBS has put mildly renewed effort into promoting it, including rerunning it skipping most of the slow first part of the season and making the pilot available for free at the iTunes Store.
CBS Entertainment’s president, Nina Tassler, has also admitted that the long winter hiatus for Jericho likely contributed to its decline. I still think that if the episodes preceding this break had been stronger, the break wouldn’t have hurt it as badly. Being scheduled against American Idol couldn’t have helped much, either. She remains clear that if fans want CBS to continue running the show that they need to bring in more viewers.
If you can’t wait, Ain’t It Cool News has some spoilers for the second season, which apparently will run the entire planned second season storyline compressed into only the seven episodes they have available to them. This could work very well for them… many serialized shows suffer complaints from viewers feeling they’re too padded. I’ve rarely if ever seen complaints that a show was going too quickly. I’ll be curious to see how the seven episode run feels.
Of course the season premiere will resolve the cliffhanger left from the attack of Jericho’s neighboring town New Bern on Jericho. I won’t say any more; if you can’t wait, check out the Ain’t It Cool News link below.
And by the way, Carol Barbee, Jericho’s executive producer, says “Any similarities between the storyline and real-life events in Iraq are entirely intentional.”
