Jericho’s Fate Decided
Jericho’s audience drop-off after its winter break proved to be too much for CBS, and they’ve cancelled the show. I imagine that being up against American Idol didn’t help, either.
Battlestar Galactica and Lost have also seen significant drop-off after taking a hiatus. While Battlestar Galactica had some of the best shows of its season before its haitus, both Lost and Jericho led into their breaks with a string of weak, slow episodes that served to set up context for what was coming. I think that the problem is that if you’re slow before the hiatus you’re not going to build up much excitement about new episodes come two months down the road even if your slow episodes serve a narrative purpose.
There are a lot of angry fans posting on CBS’ web site for the show. If you want to get in on some “save Jericho” action, that would be a good place to look for it.
Curiously missing from CBS’ fall schedule is the often-mentioned zombie dramedy “Babylon Fields”. Midseason replacement or misfire?
