Doomsday in Scotland
You’re looking for an older man with some flavor of British accent to play a crazy villain in a post-apocalyptic drama? The accent leaves out Dennis Hopper, but Malcolm McDowell is available after his stint on NBC’s “Heroes” and apparently he hasn’t played his share of crazies yet.
It’s not entirely clear that McDowell will be playing a villain, though - by some reports his character is a scientist who’s found a cure for the plague that happened 30 years before “Doomsday” takes place, and is now running a feudal society in northern Scotland. The director (Neil Marshall of “Dog Soldiers” and “The Descent”) says “it’s like a Heart of Darkness journey” and describes McDowell’s character as similar to Kurtz - making it a little difficult to believe he’s a just a really nice guy.
