Bird Flu Originates from China?
The National Academy of Sciences suggests that H5N1 - avian flu - originates in the Guangdong (Canton) province of China. Knowing its source may both help control it and help find a vaccine for it, although it seems to have spread enough that it’s too late to simply try to isolate it at the source.
I traveled to Guangdong once in the 90’s, by train from Hong Kong. I only visited Guangzhou, the capital city of the province. I remember that I had some truly fabulous wonton soup on the train. I was only there for two days… apparently its economy has quadrupled in size since I was there.
