People don’t talk much these days about the old idea of Quebec leaving Canada and becoming part of New England… now the Toronto Star projects forward to 2020 when New England leaves the United States and joins Canada, propelled by the conservatism of the south and Canadian dissatisfaction.

Would the United States Federal Government fight to keep Maine? Vermont? We might have found out a few years ago when Vermonters narrowly voted to remain in the union. It’s hard to imagine that it would allow those states to go quietly, let alone Massachusetts or especially New York.
